Drivers Licenses

 Process and procedures to obtain a driver’s licenses in Florida:

  • Written Test
    • The test is administered at a local driver licensing office, and covers basic rules of the road and how to safely operate a motor vehicle. The test includes 25 questions, and to pass you will need to answer at least 20 questions correctly.
  • Driving Test
    • After passing the knowledge test, you must pass a driving test in order to get your Florida driver's license. Before taking the driving test, you should practice driving with a certified instructor or qualified licensed adult. Many new drivers enroll in either a driver's education program or a licensed driving school to help them develop the appropriate skills and confidence.
    • To be eligible to take the driving test, you will need a vehicle in good working condition and proof of liability insurance for the vehicle. You must score at least 80 points out of 100 to pass the test.
  • Additional Information
    • Any individual under 18 should provide parental consent and must complete the graduated driver licensing process. For additional details, see Beginner Drivers and/or Learner's Permits for Beginner Drivers.
    • In order to qualify for a Florida driver license, one must complete a standard course on traffic law and substance abuse and receive a certificate to that effect. Everyone must pass tests for vision, hearing, road rules and signs as well as a practical driving test. See Practice Tests and Driver's Handbook for more information on the written examination. Driver education programs can help individuals prepare for their road test.
    • Applicants must provide two acceptable proof of legal presence either in original or certified copies as well as proof of age and their social security card if they have one
    • Applicants who are not U.S. citizens must provide proof of legal presence in Florida.
